BAD HABITS – ARE THEY REALLY DIFFICULT TO BREAK?

Have you ever noticed that when you sit behind the steering wheel of your car you automatically insert the ignition key? Did you at any time stop and tell yourself to insert the key? NO! You did it without thinking about it, almost automatically! You know that when you have to drive your car you need to first insert the key. This is the stimulus and your nervous system responds by performing the action. Repeatedly performing an action to a stimulus conditions the mind to do the same action whenever that stimulus occurs and the action becomes a habit. Good habits and bad habits make up our personality.For a long time now sociologists and psychologists have studied bad habits as a social behavior. HOW TO STUDY FOR A TEST USING ‘SPACED’ LEARNING

You spend an hour at study, then fifteen minutes at a "break," another hour at your work, another break, and another hour of study, you will have learned more, and memory of the learning will last longer, than if you spend three or even four--straight hours at work.Perhaps this is due to the reverie in which you are bound to indulge during the break period, reasoning out in your own thoughts the things you've been memorizing. PROFESSORS – USING STUDENT-DRIVEN LEARNING METHODS – COOPERATIVE-COLLABORATIVE LEARNING – PART 1

A popular instructional development of recent years has been the use of small groups within classrooms to provide students an engaging, non-threatening learning experience. The strategy leverages the tenets of the constructivist approach, whose adherents believe that students, rather than coming to the course with a "blank slate," construct new knowledge within the parameters of their existing knowledge. Although purists differentiate the terms cooperative learning and collaborative learning -- largely according to the instructor's degree of involvement, many practitioners treat the terms as largely synonymous. While there is value in considering the connotations of each term individually, I'll be using the term cooperative/collaborative learning throughout this article.Simply having students work in small groups does not guarantee effective learning outcomes. In order for learning to be cooperative/collaborative, the following five elements that must be present: Positive interdependence of goals, roles, resources, and rewards. Students must believe that they are linked with others such that one cannot succeed unless the other members of the group also succeed. Face-to-face promotive interaction. Students must help, assist, encourage, and support one another's efforts to learn. Individual accountability.
